about

many things came in to play on this one, a two-chorder about the nature of appearances. i'm happy with the shel silverstein and dumas references and the subtler one toward calvin & hobbes. really, it's my cat that's the banana, but that was harder to rhyme. the first song recorded on the digi 001, if that's of interest to you....

lyrics

i took my head to my favorite place
swam in the dirt and got mud on my face
felt like a reptile
looked like an ostrich
but wherever i go
no one notices me

i gave a rose to my librarian
she says that i remind her of d'artagnan
she hides like a hermit
reads too much calvino
but whenever she's near
i'm a tigery guy

[i have a banana at home
that thinks it's a cat
and whenever it goes
it stays where it's at
sometimes i think this is
all really real
but usually i'm slipping
on my cat's banana peel]

i fell right out of a tree that could talk
pulled at the roots to see if it could walk
quick disappointment
turned to security
when the tree said to me
"i won't go anywhere"
it's a giving tree....

about

The Marble Tea Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey

Drawing mandalas and watching Captain Kangaroo...that's pretty much what it's like in here. I enjoy writing songs about my cats and cartoon insects, but I'm also fond of feeling up the tentacles that lead to the oneness of existence. That's the Marble Tea experience.

Recommended for fans of Jonathan Richman, Robyn Hitchcock, Jazz Butcher, Magnetic Fields, etc.
